GDXZ HV Withstand Test Equipment Series Resonant AC Hipot Test System is application to do AC withstand voltage test of 500kV and below GIS, switchgear,cables and other substation equipment .
The test frequency is 30-300Hz, the capacitance ≤0.017uF. the test voltage does not exceed 700kV. Under rated load,allow continuous work 60min; overvoltage 1.1 times for 1 minute.

1. Introduction of GDXZ Series Resonant AC Hipot Test System:


  • GDXZ Series Resonant AC Hipot Test System has a wide range of applications, mainly for AC withstand voltage testing of cross-linked cables, hydroelectric generators, power transformers, CT PT,busbars, GIS, etc.

  • Series resonant power supply generates high voltage and high current through the resonance of resonant reactor and tested capacitor. In the entire system, the power supply only needs to provide the active consumption of the system, therefore, the required power consumption for the experiment is only 1/Q of the test capacity, greatly reducing the required power supply capacity.

4. Determine the Capacity


Design 4 reactors, and the single reactor is 700kVA/175kV/4A/1240H. The total capacity is 2800kVA.

AC withstand voltage test of 500kV and below GIS, switchgear and other substation equipment . The test frequency is 30-300Hz, the capacitance ≤0.017uF. the test voltage does not exceed 700kV, and the test time is 1min.


Use four reactors in series (factor 1.2), then L=124*4*1.2=595H, then:

Test frequency: f=1/2π√LC=1/(2*3.14*√595*0.017*10-6)=50Hz

Test current: I=2πfCU test =2π*50*0.017*10-6*660*103=3.6A

The capacity of the device is set at 2800kVA/700kV, divided into 4 reactors, and the single reactor is 700kVA/175kV/4A/124H. The use of reactors in series and parallel can meet the above test requirements of the tested product.


5. What should we notice before do series resonance test for GIS?


The GIS AC withstand voltage test is also called the GIS series resonance test. After the GIS equipment is installed and debugged on site, a withstand voltage test is required. It is necessary to check whether the insulation performance after the overall installation is intact, analyze and verify whether there are various hidden dangers that will cause GIS failure, and the use of GIS will not work normally.


1) The test object should be fully installed, inflated to the rated density, and theseries resonance withstand voltage test can only be carried out after the airtightness test and gas humidity measurement are passed.

2) Before the withstand voltage test, the insulation resistance of the test product should be measured.

3) Before the withstand voltage test, the secondary windings of all current transformers on the GIS should be short-circuited and grounded.

4) Before the withstand voltage test, the high-voltage cables, overhead lines, power transformers and electromagnetic voltage transformers should be isolated (if frequency conversion power supply is used, the electromagnetic voltage transformers will not cause magnetic saturation after frequency calculation, and can also be used together with the main circuit for withstand voltage test), lightning arresters and protective spark gaps.

5) Each part of the GIS main circuit should be tested for withstand voltage.
